Dear Praying Friends,
We finished the first 10 week term of the school year with rejoicing, seeing all of our new five students respond with understanding to the gospel and receive Christ! Some of their family members also became part of God’s family, and on April 6th, 10 were baptized! Pastor Danny’s new convert class is full, and we are all thrilled!
This development forces me to reconsider my teaching plan for this new group of students: two couples and a widow. I had the couples in view for full-time ministry, but really need to give them basics, and see how they grow, and how God speaks to them. Our returning students have been busy in a variety of Baimuru Baptist Church ministries.
I mentioned in our last newsletter that we experienced a difficult start to the new year, especially in the area of equipment. I had to purchase a new air compressor and generator. The solar freezer was sent into Port Moresby for repairs. It is now in Kerema, waiting to be picked up by my dinghy – and I got a message from Skipper Sam that the dinghy engine quit on his way there, and they had to be towed in to Kerema.
When we were on our furlough, many of you told us to “let you know what we needed.” So we are. We have two major ministry needs:
I need to purchase 23 drums of fuel and have them brought by barge to Baimuru. Some of you already give specifically to this need, and the cost of 8 of the drums has already been covered. That leaves a need for 15 drums at a cost of $300 each (fuel and delivery), $4500.
Secondly, many repairs are needed on existing student housing, outdoor toilets, and the students’ kitchens. Also, a number of small, but strong bridges have to be maintained around the grounds here and on the path to the river so my small tractor and trailer can be used profitably. I am estimating the cost of the timber, and its transport to be $6000.
Thank you for caring and praying and asking about our needs! What a great blessing that is!
