Dear Praying Friends,
The first thing I must say is “THANK YOU” for the quick, generous, and complete response you had in meeting the needs presented in the previous letter concerning lumber and fuel. Rejoice, those of you who prayed for us and the need, as your prayers were answered alongside of ours!
The first drums used of that fuel were consumed by the dinghy engine as it took the students and Pastor Danny out on several outreaches to larger villages, distributing tracts and sharing the gospel.
The lumber has been keeping us busy during work details, making several new small buildings for private washing for each family and new well covers. There are some other projects to attend to once the weather is a bit drier.
Since it has been very wet, I have been using the afternoon hours that would usually be a work detail to meet with the men. We are particularly looking at proper interpretation of the Scriptures, and organizing our studies into a teachable outline. (Context! Context! Context!)
The Year 3 students need this extra instruction as my time with them is nearing an end, and working with the Year 1 students in this manner gives me an idea of their strengths and weaknesses and how I might best help them going forward. Please especially uphold these 5 first year students. They are recently saved, generally uneducated, but ministry-minded.
We are giving the Year 3 students as much opportunity to minister as possible. They take turns in the children’s and women’s ministries, market preaching, and preaching in Baimuru Baptist services. They also have taken advantage of the crowds gathering for basketball and rugby games to hand out tracts. Next term I will have the men teaching some of the Chronological Bible lessons to the Year 1 students in the Bible Institute.
In September, Papua New Guinea will celebrate its 50th year as an independent nation. I have two prayer requests in relation to this event. Firstly, pray for the many evangelistic outreaches that have been planned across the country. These include street preaching, Bible and tract distribution, and other special programs. Secondly, pray for God’s protection over the same; large crowds, especially ones that have access to alcohol, often become destructive or violent. We need God to do a great work in the hearts of men!
